Hallelujah For the Cross!

with No Comments

I absolutely love this song “Hallelujah For the Cross” by Chris McClarney. The song reminds of who we were, who we are, and because of what we have been given through grace by faith in Christ’s work to save us by His sacrificial death on the cross we now have an opportunity to use our whole life as a living sacrifice creating an aroma of life and one that glorifies God.

Hallelujah For the Cross

Paul summarizes it here in Colossians:

Colossians 2:6-7

Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

The song has its basis taken from I Peter 2:24.

I Peter 2:24

And He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.

The verses of the song retell who we were before we believed in Christ’s work on the cross to pay for our sins and give us eternal life.

MY…

Identity before

  • I was a prisoner
  • I was hopeless
  • I was desperate
  • I was living in shame
  • I was a slave to the darkness

And the bridge tells of what we have been given:

And by Your stripes, I’m healedAnd by Your death, I live
The power of sin is overcome
It is finished, it is done
The power of sin is overcome
It is finished

Identity now

  • I am bought & paid for by Christ’s blood
  • I am free
  • It is finished: I am no longer a slave to darkness, I am dead to sin, and I am made alive to righteousness

I Peter 2:24

And He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.

Romans 6:11

Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

Colossians 3:1-4

Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.

IF you believe…

You are given a New Identity–

  • You are dead to sin
  • You are alive to God
  • You are able to live to righteousness
  • Your life is hidden with Christ in God

But here’s the Challenge–

  • Seek & set your minds on the things above not the things on the earth
  • Live in light of eternity
  • Go for the Gold!
