Build Hope

Many people ask me, “When can or should we start sharing the Gospel with our kids?” I say as soon as they are breathing.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9

Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the alone. And you must love the your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

We as Christians are no longer to share the Law with our kids, but are to share the Gospel of God’s grace. This principle remains true between the Old and New Testaments. We should be sharing whenever possible and in all ways possible.  Breathe the Gospel into their lives. Repeat truth again and again. Talk to them when at home, in the car, at bedtime, during breakfast. Once they believe the Gospel of Jesus paying for their sins, share the Christian Life; their identity, the exchanged life, walking in the Spirit, confessing sins to continue in good fellowship with God. We need to use every opportunity to share truth with our kids and create a Grace Filled Family Ethos. This will produce healthy adults who are able to make disciples, not constantly swayed to and fro by the world’s opposing values.
