Pray for His Coming

This is a new year and everyone everywhere seems to be hopeful that this will be a better year than the last.  Those who had a rough 2017 are praying for a better 2018. This reminds me of my son Elliot. When he was 4 at the turn of the new year we talked to him about December 31st being the last day of the year.  He responded with excited anticipation, “Are we about to be with God?” He thought we were about to go to be with God in Heaven 😉

Wow! To be so excited to be in God’s presence. There are many fun things to do, have, and experience here on this earth that some days it is hard to remember I have a future beyond this world. But then there are so many horrible things I experience that some days my heart aches to be in a perfected body, in a perfected world, and working for His glory.

Something we are trying to remind our kids of is to pray for Christ’s coming. Jesus tells His disciples to pray, “May Your (God’s) Kingdom come soon” (Matthew 6:10). Jesus will be coming!

II Peter 3:8-9:

But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day.The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.

Jesus is patiently waiting to come, wanting everyone to believe in Him.  I pray for His coming this new year, that I stay faithful, and be at the business of clearly communicating the gospel so all people may believe and receive the gift of eternal life that they too may live in the perfect world that is to come.

II Peter 3:11-13:

Since everything around us is going to be destroyed like this, what holy and godly lives you should live, looking forward to the day of God and hurrying it along. On that day, he will set the heavens on fire, and the elements will melt away in the flames. But we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world filled with God’s righteousness.

Pray with me, “Jesus come.”

I pray that in 2018 we will walk in the Spirit living a holy and godly life sharing the Good News of Jesus’ sacrificial death for our forgiveness of sins and pray He comes back for us soon. Happy New Year!
